Understanding Equipment

Moving Clients / Patients
When moving clients / patients, it is important to be familiar and trained in the safe use of equipment. Move Safe Manual Handling can train people in the safe use of equipment that will ensure safety to the equipment user and also protect the safety and wellbeing of the customer / patient.

Manual handling patient equipment can vary greatly in functionality and safety. Please consult the list of equipment that Move Safe can deliver training to organisation and client requirements.

Hospital Bed
There are many types of patient hospital beds that vary in function. These beds offer support for all types of patients (disability, aged, health).
There are many types of mattresses to support the patient and help to have improved sleep and supported movement makes working for care staff safer in supporting patients.
I train staff in the multiples function of beds and support staff to move the patient safely.

Commode Chair
Used for assisting people with toileting that have difficulty standing and sitting on toilets. Commodes can be adjusted to ensure safety and comfort when toileting.
I train staff to safely transfer clients onto commode chairs via stand transfers and hoist transfers. Commodes can be designed to support people with disabilities, aging and health concerns.

Patient Walkers
These walkers are used to support a client to safely walk when they need support. There are many types of supportive walking aids that staff are required to use to assist people when walking.

I train staff how to safely use walking aids to ensure that the employee and clients / patients stay safe.

Power Assisted and Non- Power Wheelchairs
There are many types of wheelchairs that vary in functionality that includes: communication devices, raise and lower functions, tilt in space. Each wheelchair will be specifically built for the individual need of the client or patient.

I train staff how to safely understand how these chairs operate and safely transfer the client / patient in and out of the specific type of wheelchair.
Shower Trolley
Used for showering client who have mobility difficulties. Trolley has drain hose to release water down the drain.
I train staff to safely transfer the client / patient the from bed to shower trolley by using a slide board / slide sheet or by portable non-weight bearing hoist
It is important to train staff to safely roll and turn clients / patients when completing showering to protect their back.
Portable non-weight bearing hoist & slings
Used in aged care, disability, and health to transfer clients from bed to chair, bed to shower trolley, bed to commode chair, onto dining chair or couch.

I can train staff to understand how to safely use the hoist and slings to complete the transfer highlighted above. There are many types of slings that are used when transferring clients, I train in the use of the slings.
Standing Hoist
Used to assist in the standing of clients. This hoist also makes transfers easier when transferring onto a commode chair, toilet, dining chair, into bed and exercise therapy.

Ceiling Hoist
Used in aged care, disability, and health to transfer client from bed to chair, bed to shower trolley, bed to commode chair

Slide Sheets
These sheets are used to safely move clients up the bed and across the bed when repositioning for comfort.
I train staff how to safely use these sheets to ensure that the staff member and client are safe.
These sheets work well when repositioning the client / patient for nighttime change in position for sleep comfort.
Large Slide Boards
These slide boards are used with slide sheets to safely move clients from bed to shower trolley or bed to bed.
I train staff how to safely use these slide board to ensure that the staff member and clients are safe.
Small Slide Boards
These slide boards are to safely move clients from bed to commode chair, wheel chair, into a car.
I staff how to safely use these slide board to ensure that the staff member and clients are safe.
Patient Fire Evacuation Sheets
These sheets are placed under mattresses on hospital beds that allow for the safe evacuation from an emergency such as fire, gas, flood or building emergencies. To use these sheets involves comprehensive training and understanding to safely use this equipment.

Transporting Wheelchairs in Modified Vehicles
Clients using powered and non-powered wheelchairs require modified vehicles to transport them in their wheelchair. There are many types of vehicles with varying methods of restraining a wheelchair.
